  简介:

CMS, the Compact Muon Solenoid experiment, operates at the Large Hadron Collider of CERN. It has been designed to answer important questions about our Universe. With its huge detector and unique magnet system the exploration of a vast range of physics topics is possible, from searches for new phenomena or resonances, dark matter, exotica, to precision studies of the Higgs boson and other standard model particles. The CMS Collaboration consists of over 6000 people, including 2400 students, and more than 250 institutions from all the world, including China. The presentation will feature highlights from the detector construction and upgrades as well as a selection of physics results. It is particularly intended to inspire the young generation of physicists and engineers.

报告人简介:Claudia-Elisabeth Wulz is an Austrian physicist employed by the Institute of High Energy Physics of the Austrian Academy of Sciences. She began her career at the UA1 experiment, first as a CERN summer student in 1982, and later as a fellow, where she participated in the discovery of the W and Z particles, working in the group of the future Nobel Prize winner Carlo Rubbia. She obtained her PhD in 1986 from TU Vienna. After UA1, she participated in the CP-violation experiment NA48, and joined CMS right from the start, working since on the trigger system and physics beyond the standard model with her group. She has been a member of the CMS Management Board and just completed her term as Collaboration Board Chair. She also enjoys lecturing on particle and astroparticle physics to university students and communicating science to the general public.
