The 9th Joint Meeting of Chinese Physicists Worldwide Was Opened At Tsinghua University

Jointly organized by the Department of Physics of Tsinghua University, the School of Physics of Peking University, the Institute of Physics of Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Collaborative Innovation Center of Quantum Matter in Beijing, the 9th Joint Meeting of Chinese Physicists Worldwide was opened at the Auditorium of Tsinghua University in Beijing on the morning of July 17th, 2017.

The conference is co-chaired by Prof. Qi-kun Xue (Vice President of Tsinghua University) and Albert M. Chang (2015-2016 President of International Organization of Chinese Physicists and Astronomers). More than 600 scholars and students from universities and research institutions locally and globally will participate in the conference.

Prof. Wei Yang, the President of the National Natural Science Foundation of China and Prof. Yong Qiu, the President of Tsinghua University, were invited to attend the meeting and delivered speeches at the opening ceremony respectively. Prof. Qi-kun Xue and Prof. Albert M. Chang also delivered warmly welcome speeches on behalf of the Tsinghua University and OCPA. Nobel Laureates Steven Chu, Takaaki Kajita and Shuji Nakamura gave plenary talks about the important work in their respective research fields. Nobel Laureate Forum on "Different Approaches to Cutting-Edge-Research", which was moderated over by Prof. Albert M. Chang, was also held in the opening ceremony. Four Nobel Laureates in physics including Chen Ning Yang, Steven Chu, Shuji Nakamura, and Takaaki Kajita, together with the leading expert on gravitational waves, emeritus professor from the Physics Department of California Institute of Technology, Barry Barish attended the forum and shared their views on the use of research methods in different disciplines of physics with the audience.

Nobel Laureate Forum

The scientific program of the conference features 16 plenary sessions, followed by invited and contributed talks in 60 parallel sessions. Scientific topics will cover the latest experimental and theoretical developments in all sub-areas of physics. The educational program will cover new progress in physics education, public outreach, mentoring of undergraduate students, graduate students and postdoctoral fellows. The 2016 OCPA Awards & Poster Awards Presentation Ceremony will also be held on July 19th during the conference.

The OCPA conference is a conference for Chinese Physicists worldwide. Since 1994, the conference has been held regularly every two (or three) years. Past conferences were held in Shantou (1995), Taipei (1997), Hong Kong (2000), Shanghai (2004), Taipei (2006), Lanzhou (2009), Kaohsiung (2011) and Singapore (2014).
