Research Interests

Wenlan Chen’s research is focused on experiments with ultracold atoms, in which entanglement and quantum many-body systems can be realized both statically and dynamically in a controlled way. This enables the possibility to study fundamental questions in quantum information and modern condensed matter with atomic physics experiments.

By loading ultracold atoms into a high-cooperativity optical resonator, she and her colleagues at MIT observed the phenomena of vacuum induced transparency. They also realized a transistor gated by a single photon, where one photon could manipulate the propagation of multi photons. By loading ultracold bosons into a three-dimensional optical lattice, they are aiming at reaching to the super-low-entropy system and use spin degree of freedom in atoms to simulate ferromagnetism and anti-ferromagnetism.

With her new team at Tsinghua, Chen is using the ultracold atoms platform to precisely manipulate quantum entanglement and many-body correlation, in which quantum simulation and quantum computation in neutral atoms could be developed.
