In crystals, the periodic arrangement of atoms determines the materials "genes"— its band structure. Professor Shuyun Zhou’s team at the Department of Physics, Tsinghua University, is devoted to exploring how intense periodic light fields from femtosecond lasers can rewrite these “genes” on ultrafast timescales and unlock new physical phenomena.
