内容摘要:Since the times of Bernd Matthias, exploratory synthesis and characterization have been pushing the boundaries of physics in quantum materials. In my presentation, I will exemplify these using connections among crystal imperfections and observables of interest in Fe1-ySe1−xSx, FeSb2, magnetic and superconducting 2D van der Waals materials. Then, I will go over some notable examples such as CeCoIn5, MgB2, two- and three- dimensional Dirac semimetals. I will also illustrate technical development in metallic flux growth methods. This activity is the “tip of the spear” within the physics research enterprise, leading to not only collaborative discoveries of fundamental physics in in-house lab and large-scale facility environments but also to innovative detection of electronic properties directly related to device applications.
报告人简介:Cedomir Petrovic is a condensed matter physicist with focus on material synthesis. He received his PhD in 2000 from Florida State University and National High Magnetic Field Laboratory (NHMFL) in the United States. He worked in the Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL) from 2002 till 2023. Since 2023, he joined Shanghai Advanced Research in Physical Sciences (SHARPS). He is currently also a visiting staff scientist of HPSATR Beijing, Scientist honorary of Vinca Institute of Nuclear Sciences in Belgrade, and adjunct professor in Stony Brook University. He is the APS Fellow (since 2016) and Foreign Associate Member of Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts. He received several honors and awards, including the Humboldt Fellowship for Experienced Researchers (2011-2014), BNL Science and Technology Award (2022), and Oriental Pearl Talent Award (2024).
