报告摘要:Discovery is one of the main drivers of developing major new science instruments. Managed through Chinese Academy of Sciences and the National Astronomical Observatories, China is building the world’s largest single-dish radio telescope, the Five-hundred-meter Aperture Spherical radio Telescope (FAST). NAOC, sponsored by the Ministry of Science and Technology, is also spearheading the national participation in the Square Kilometer Array (SKA) project, of which China is a founding member. NAOC also hosts several PI driven radio experiments, targeting EoR, BAO, and ISM.

I will present a brief introduction of NAOC’s role in FAST and SKA and related efforts in other experiments. A personal perspective will be provided on their potential for discoveries in three areas 1) Evolution of the Universe and the Galaxies through HI imaging and intensity mapping 2) Quantifying and discovering the content of interstellar medium 3) probing fundamental physics with pulsars.
