Abstract:

Rapid advancements in nanophotonics have transformed our ability to control light at the nanoscale, reshaping its interaction with matter [1]. Among the recent breakthroughs, photonic bound states in the continuum (BICs) have emerged, enabling the confinement and enhancement of light within specific electromagnetic spectra ranges and momentum space. These developments offer significant potential in many optoelectronic applications. This presentation delves into leveraging the unique attributes of photonic BICs to forge innovative pathways for robust light-matter interactions and amplification. We will explore the design and realization of nanostructured systems supporting BICs, showcasing our latest experimental findings in this field. The spotlight will be on light amplification through interactions with gain media, revealing prospects for low-threshold lasers [2-5] and strong light-matter interactions down to single photon level [6-7]. By capitalizing on these resonant states, we can pave the way for efficient nanophotonic devices, opening new avenues in light-emitting devices, optical communication, sensing, and quantum technologies.
